$2 Billion in Bitcoin Moves After 14 Years of Dormancy

Two dormant Bitcoin wallets from 2011 have recently transferred a total of 20,000 BTC, valued at over $2 billion, according to monitoring platforms Lookonchain and Whale Alert. These funds were moved to new addresses not linked to exchanges, suggesting a possible security upgrade, with no signs of immediate sale.

On-chain data analysis shows that 62,800 BTC older than seven years were moved in the first three months of 2025, compared to 28,000 BTC in Q1 2024—a 121% increase. Experts highlight the remarkable discipline of long-term holders (HODLers). If they choose to sell, the expectation is that they will do so through OTC transactions to avoid direct market impact.

Bitcoin's price has risen 16% in 2025, surpassing $110,000 in May, fueled by record inflows into spot ETFs. Optimistic forecasts suggest the price could reach between $150,000 and $250,000 by year-end. These recent actions raise questions about actual supply and the potential for increased volatility.
