Bitcoin Holdings of Metaplanet Exceed $2 Billion

Metaplanet, a company listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, announced the purchase of 463 bitcoins on August 4, 2025, as part of its accumulation strategy launched in late 2024. With this transaction, Metaplanet now holds a total of 17,595 BTC.

The acquisition was made at an average price of approximately $117,420 per BTC, totaling about $54.4 million. The average cost per unit for the company’s entire portfolio stands at around $101,010, indicating a significant unrealized gain.

At the current market value, Metaplanet's total bitcoin holdings are valued at around $2 billion, surpassing the ¥261 billion mark.

This acquisition follows shortly after Metaplanet submitted a financing plan aiming to raise up to ¥555 billion (approximately $3.6 billion) by issuing perpetual preferred shares. The company targets a total portfolio of 210,000 BTC by 2027. In parallel, it has proposed increasing the number of authorized shares to 2.72 billion and introducing two classes of preferred shares.
