Ethereum tops $4,200 as Vitalik Buterin regains on-chain billionaire status

Ethereum has surpassed the $4,200 threshold, restoring network co-founder Vitalik Buterin’s status as an on-chain billionaire, according to Arkham data. His portfolio is valued at approximately $1.04 billion and includes 240,042 ETH, along with other cryptocurrencies such as Aave Ethereum (AETHWETH), WhiteRock (WHITE), Moo Deng (MOODENG), and Wrapped Ethereum (WETH).

On August 9, Ether rose 6.38%, reaching a peak of $4,332 — its highest level since December 2024. Currently, ETH is trading at $4,244, according to Nansen. Traders estimate the token could soon return to its November 2021 record of $4,878.

CoinGlass data indicates that a climb to $4,500 could put approximately $1.35 billion in short positions at risk, potentially triggering a short squeeze.

Ether ETFs recorded total daily flows of $461 million, surpassing Bitcoin’s $404 million. Over the past five days, U.S. spot ETH ETFs saw net inflows of $326.6 million, compared to $253.2 million for BTC.
