Major Spanish Bank Promotes Crypto Portfolio Diversification

BBVA, one of the largest banks in Spain, is now recommending that its private banking clients invest between 3% and 7% of their portfolios in cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin and Ethereum. The recommended allocation depends on each investor’s risk profile and marks a significant shift in how traditional financial institutions approach digital assets.
With approximately $700 billion in assets under management and over 80 million customers worldwide, BBVA holds substantial influence in the European banking sector. Through this recommendation, the bank not only acknowledges the growing maturity of the crypto market but also suggests a potential long-term role for digital assets in portfolio diversification strategies.
This move comes amid growing institutional adoption of cryptocurrencies, as well as ongoing developments in regulatory and custody infrastructure. BBVA has offered crypto custody services through its Swiss division since 2021, laying the groundwork for broader client exposure to this asset class.
