Metaplanet Now Sixth Largest Global Bitcoin Holder

Metaplanet, a Japanese company specializing in Bitcoin treasury management, announced on Monday that it acquired 1,009 BTC, bringing its total holdings to 20,000 BTC. The transaction was valued at 16.479 billion yen, approximately $112 million.

At the same time, the company issued 11.5 million new shares, following the exercise of warrants by investor Evo Fund. Evo Fund purchased 10 million shares at $5.67 and another 1.5 million shares at just under $6, for a total of around $65.73 million.

According to BitcoinTreasuries.net, Metaplanet is currently the sixth largest Bitcoin holder globally and the leading Bitcoin treasury in Japan. The company’s average purchase price per Bitcoin is $102,607, which represents an unrealized gain of about 6.75% compared to the current market price.

The proceeds from the share issuance will be used to finance the early redemption of bonds worth approximately $20.4 million. Evo Fund retains the right to acquire up to an additional 34.5 million shares.
