Satoshi Nakamoto Statue Found Vandalized in Lake Lugano

The symbolic statue of Bitcoin's creator, Satoshi Nakamoto, was found vandalized in Lake Lugano shortly after being reported stolen. The artwork, created by artist Valentina Picozzi and located in Parco Ciani, Lugano, was discovered in several pieces by municipal workers.
According to the art collective Satoshigallery, which designed and installed the statue, it was broken off from its welded base—suggesting an act of vandalism rather than an attempt to sell or profit from the piece. The statue was unveiled in October 2024 and quickly became a recognized symbol of Bitcoin’s cultural movement.
At this time, the motive remains unknown. There is speculation about a possible link to Swiss National Day celebrations, but authorities have not confirmed this. Satoshigallery has announced a reward of 0.1 BTC (over $11,000) for any information leading to the identification of those responsible.
The collective has not yet issued a detailed statement regarding plans for restoring or reinstalling the statue. The incident has sparked strong reactions from the crypto community, with many users expressing outrage online.
