Space Tickets in Crypto: Blue Origin Integrates Bitcoin Payments
Blue Origin, the aerospace company founded by Jeff Bezos, announced it will accept cryptocurrency and stablecoin payments for its spaceflight tickets. According to a Monday press release, tickets for the suborbital New Shepard vehicle can be purchased in Bitcoin, Ethereum, and USDT through integration with the Shift4 Payments platform.
The company stated that transactions can be made directly from digital wallets such as MetaMask and Coinbase. To date, New Shepard has carried over 75 passengers beyond the Kármán Line, the internationally recognized boundary between Earth's atmosphere and outer space.
Shift4 CEO Taylor Lauber said that expanding payment methods beyond Earth aligns with the company’s vision for innovation in commerce. Alex Wilson, head of crypto at Shift4, noted that cryptocurrencies and stablecoins are likely to become an increasingly common option for high-value purchases.
